This is an amazing sequel to the first book, Hourglass. I completely loved the entire
book from beginning to end, because the book was very well written, all the
puzzle pieces fall into place, and the writing style of Myra McEntire is very
elaborate and complex. What I absolutely loved about this book, it the concept
that it is written from the perspective from a secondary character in the first
book, Kaleb, and how his whole life also revolves around the whole hourglass
problem. I enjoyed reading more this book than the first, so if you read the
first book and liked it, you are absolutely going to enjoy reading this one. I
really recommend people to read the first book, and continue on with the
series.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Venom was a fantastic book from
beginning to end. Venom takes place in the city of Venice, Italy. The book
contains a murder mystery in historical Venice, romance, danger, historical
background, and awesome characters. I really enjoyed reading the book, because
the story always completely took different paths from what I thought, and the
ending was completely unexpected. This book was a really good page turner, and
although the book is long, it will keep you intrigued from beginning to end. I
really recommend this book to everyone who enjoys mysteries with historical
background. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed reading this book, because there was a lot
of romance, loyalty, betrayal and butt-kicking fights. I also enjoyed this book
a lot, because I got to get to know the characters in more depth, and this book
was very descriptive with feelings, which made me understand these characters
more than any of the other books in these series. I absolutely loved the book,
and I think that this book was a very nice ending to the Maximum Ride series.
Although I was a little disappointing that they didn't really get to save the
world.... or that you are never told if they ever did, because the series was
based on her saving the planet and the human population, and towards the end,
they seem to be the only survivors.

Where do I start? Christopher Pike writes about a mystical, outrageous, and fantastic world in his book, Thirst! This book has kept me reading it every day and nonstop until my eyes get worn out from too much reading. Thirst has three books in it, which is the reason it's very large. Thirst includes in it, The Last Vampire, Black Blood, and Red Dice. Each book made me fall in love with the characters as well as the author, more and more! Thirst may be a spectacular book, but there are 3 more waiting for me to explore.

Alisa Perne may look 18 years old, but she really knows her true age! She's been to Ancient Rome, Egypt, mostly anywhere in the world. Her true age, she would probably kill me for telling, is 5,000 years old. I was wondering how on Earth is that possible, but truly think about it. Wanting to kill me, by drinking all my blood! Really answers to -- VAMPIRE! Alisa Perne, the 5,000 year old bloodsucking MONSTER!

Alisa's secret has been discovered, now she's on the hunt to find who's sending men after men to capture her and "experiment" on her. Of course, from dangerous, out of the world adventure always comes...Romance! Alisa, the dangerous, is she "that" dangerous to survive?

I'm only going to recommend this book to VAMPIRE LOVERS, obviously obsessed readers, and also people who want to discover Pike's crazy and mystical world. If those qualities fit you, pick up the book and join Alisa in her adventure of life or death!
I was very intrigued by this book because it keep me
interested and on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. This book
contained mystery, supernatural powers, and a twisting plot with a very
unexpected ending. This is the best time traveling book I've read, and it was
definitely one of the best page turner books I've ever read. I loved the book,
and I would encourage people who like supernatural, time traveling, mysteries,
romance and unexpected endings to consider reading this amazing book.

Hannagann who involuntarily gets sucked into the dreams of other people around
her. She suffers through her ability and is unable to control her body when she
is pulled into the wild dreams of strangers and her close friends. Janie has to
fight her visions on her own due to her fear that people will judge her or
think she’s crazy if they found out what she can do. Then she meets Cabel, the
only person she trusts to reveal her ability to. However, Cabel’s dreams prove
to be more dark and mysterious than Janie can handle. Throughout the story
Janie struggles to control her ability and to understand why she was blessed or
maybe cursed with it in the first place. This is a great read for anyone

questionable motives. This story is an enthralling tale of a girl who
perseveres through her hardships to connect her family once again while battling
the evils of the world that is crumbling around her. This 306 page novel is a
great read for anyone who loves stories about adventure and the obstacles
placed upon people by the outside world. -Julia, 18
Deirdrehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12419693219935981647noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1392878697245212202.post-36077920216845808182012-05-11T10:07:00.001-04:002012-05-11T10:07:58.133-04:00The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler

Initially I decided to read The Future of Us because I loved Jay Asher’s other book 13 Reasons Why. However, I discovered I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. The book focuses around Josh and Emma who are neighbors. The story takes place in 1996. Josh gives Emma a CD for AOL. The internet is brand new for these teens so they are both excited. However when Emma tries out the CD it somehow connects her to the future. Not just any future, but Facebook. The idea of this book is brilliant, but personally I do not find time traveling intriguing. They soon realize the actions of their daily lives affect their future lives that they see in status updates and wall posts on Facebook. They both attempt to change their futures because neither of them is happy with what they will become. Maybe it was because I was expecting more from Asher since I had read his previous book, but I did not think the writing was done that well. It was an interesting idea, but I simply did not enjoy it. If you are a reader who enjoys time travel and science fiction-type books, you might love this book. ~L. Mishkin
If you liked John Green’s other book, Looking for Alaska, you will love Paper Towns! The book centers around the protagonist, Quentin Jacobson, or better known as “Q”. He lives in Orlando, Florida and is neighbors with the other main character, Margo Spieglman. The book begins with a flashback to when both characters are young and best friends. They discover the dead body of Robert Joyner, who committed suicide. The next part focuses on when both teens are in high school. They are no longer friends, but Quentin has admired Margo for all these years. Suddenly the story takes a turn when Margo shows up at Quentin’s window asking him to sneak out with her and help her get revenge on all the people who did her wrong. They start with Margo’s ex-boyfriend who cheated on her. A fish and a blue “M” is left at each person’s house the two visit. At the end of the night the kids say their goodbyes and retreat to their homes. At this point I began to really like Margo as a character. She had the same quirky attitude that Alaska had in Green’s previous book. Quentin as high hopes for the future of him and Margo, but he finds out the next day Margo has gone missing. However, Quentin believes Margo has left him clues to find her. Just like Looking for Alaska, an adventure begins. Quentin and his two hilarious best friends set off to see where Margo has gone. I think what makes this book great is the mystery aspect of it. It is written very similarly to Looking for Alaska. I like how real Quentin and his friends are as well. Green personifies a typical American teenager when he writes as Quentin. I would recommend this book to most teenagers, either boys or girls. It’s a quick, easy read that will be enjoyable to anyone!
Told from two intertwining perspectives, one of a deaf boy named Ben and the other told by a blind girl named Rose. This beautifully crafted novel is told in part by words and pictures. Separated by fifty years Ben and Rose are so different, yet so similar. They both deep down yearn for something that they’ve never had, and together, separated by history go looking for it. This is a great read. If you enjoy double perspectives, interesting plot twists and fantastic characters this is a novel for you.

In the thrilling and imaginative novel The Unwanteds, Lisa McMann tells the story of thirteen year old Alex Stowe. Set in a society called Quill where the stiff minded and intellectual are treasured and the creative are sentenced to death, lives Alex and his twin brother, Aaron. Since a young age Alex knew he would be unwanted. He found pleasure in drawing pictures in the mud, which was the extent of art in a vast, desolate, and slowly rotting Quill. Aaron on the other hand was the embodiment of what Quill strived to be, strong, intelligent, and not at all influenced by his emotions, or so he would like to think. This exciting, fast paced novel is like a mash up of The Hunger Games and Harry Potter, with its dark theme and magical touches it truly is a great read.

Composed of vignettes based around objects from Min Green and Ed Slaterton's relationship, it's unlike any other book I've read. Each object is linked to an explanation by Min, who tells the story of the item and how it contributed to the rise or fall of their relationship. Each account builds their relationship from the ground up, from when when Min first talked to Ed, to the first hint of incompatibility, to their break-up. Min, a smart and independent high school student, is a funny heartfelt narrator, recounting each event perfectly. The reader falls in love with Ed as Min does, sees Ed's flaws as Min does, and in the end, understands why she must break up wit him.
This novel will make you laugh and make you cry, not to be cliche. I would recommend it for readers ages 13 to 16.
Bick’s main character, Alex, hates being pitied, and she doesn’t want people to treat her differently, or protecting her, based on the fact that she has a brain tumor. She believes that if the doctors couldn’t do anything by this time to help or cure her, then she should let nature take its course and try to be carefree. Alex’s nervous Aunt Hannah wishes that Alex would come home safe and sound; however, Alex doesn’t want to be bothered anymore, so she runs away to the mountains. Witches: The Absolutely True Tale of Disaster in Salem, by Rosalyn Schanzer, is an historical account of the infamous witch trials during the 16th and 17th centuries. The book manages to be exciting while being informing as well. It traces its origins to a mysterious illness that was afflicting the population of the colonies. The author leans toward the theory that two girls took advantage of the strange sickness and used it to get their revenge upon enemies of their family, unwittingly discrediting or murdering dozens. Setting the scene perfectly, the book begins with a passage explaining the Puritans' ideals, strict social mores, and fears of the "spirit world."

Overall, this 144 page book explains the Salem Witch Trials, in its entirety, in an interesting and thoughtful way. I would recommend it to readers aged 10 to 14.
The Eleventh Plague, by Jeff Hirsch, follows Stephen Quinn, who is among the remnants of the human race after an apocalyptic turn of events. Born a survivor, Stephen travels with his father and grandfather around the ruins of America, searching for anything worth money. Due to illness and a resulting accident, he loses his grandfather and his father falls into a coma. All by himself, and controlled by his animal instincts, Stephen comes across Settler's Landing, a civilized, but dystopian, community. They take him in, despite his being rough around the edges. The book chronicles the battle between Stephen's barbaric, animalistic self from his years as a nomad and his refined, more human self.
Between, by Jessica Warman, is a dark mystery that follows Liz Valchar as she struggles to remember, as well as come to terms with her own death. After her rather illegal birthday party, on her dad's boat, Liz wakes up to find her dead body floating in the harbor. Before she can begin to understand what's happened, she meets Alex Berg, a schoolmate of her's who died a year earlier. Neither can remember the exact circumstances surrounding their deaths nor their lives. As Liz remembers her living self, she is unsure whether her former self had any depth of character. She was a petty, extremely popular, rich girl on the outside. However, part of Liz remembers herself as a grief-stricken, love-sick little girl who just anted to be liked. As the police try to understand what happened the night of her death, and question whether it was an accident or a carefully planned murder, Liz struggles with her own morality.
This novel is full of mystery, introspective questions, and suspense. I would highly recommend this book very highly to readers ages 13 to 17.
Best Foot Forward by Joan Bauer is about a teenage girl, Jenna Boller, who is attempting to recover from the death of a friend and find closure regarding her father's imprisonment. Jenna is a member of Al-Anon, which helps people who have alcoholics in their lives. She also works at a shoe store, Gladstone Shoes. Jenna's father is in prison after she turned him in for driving while drunk. Work keeps her busy and also keeps her mind off her father. Her life becomes even more complicated when she meets Tanner Cobb, who was caught stealing. He gets a job at Gladstone Shoes in order to make up for what he has done. This 181 page novel is a quick read and exposes the challenges many young people face. I would recommend this coming of age book to young adults ages 12 to 15 who enjoy inspirational stories about characters their own age.

Naomi Shihab Nye set out to do a progressive thing when she proposed 25 Under 25 to her publisher - she aimed to produce a relevant anthology of, by, and for young readers. After completing said collection, I feel wholeheartedly certain that she succeeded. While Shihab Nye's introduction might lead a reader to believe that the breadth of the writers and topics leaves something to be desired, as she writes of a rather singular and specific experience in an isolated region of the United States, the book unfolds into something far from limited. Each poet emerges from a unique background and brings with him or herself a set of experiences and a personal history that is widely relatable and clearly imperative in the composition of the poetry - many stanzas include references to personal traumas and successes, in every instance formatted to be as honest and genuine as possible. This is a book not only suitable for the portion of youth who love poetry, but also for those who detest it based on the stuffy prose offered by English teachers; I advocate its integration into the curriculum of any educator who finds overcoming a student's distaste difficult.

There is a poet in this anthology for each and every young person to find kinship with, whether due to stylistic flair of the writer or the subjects addressed. From rejection to rape to airplane travel, each writer puts into words the deep emotions experienced by themselves and so many others. The borders of this collection do not exist - you will find sounds of Pakistan, images of Mexico, and memories of New York City, all coalesced into one enormous dream coat, perfectly suited to keeping one warm through the snowy winter. Essentially, you would do well to keep this books at your side, regardless of age or season.
